The Autumn 2010 issue will be a visionary edition which will attempt to identify the technical and managerial know-how needs of the international hospitality industry for the coming decade which will be taught in educational institutes.
The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) predicts strong growth in its sector in the years to come; experts forecast the number of tourists to double by the year 2020, to 1.8 billion people.
The behavioral changes which will occur in the coming years will impact employment in the sector: new activities and jobs will be created, as well as specialised jobs integrating new technologies.
Education programs are likely to evolve towards greater quality; and qualifications and training programs are a key element leading to quality.
In this perspective, education will be a key factor in a sector which is becoming more and more complex and in which there will be an increasing amount of associated services.

Hospitality management education in 2020: challenges and opportunities
Social changes and economic factors have a direct impact on the hospitality industry and the evolution of its businesses.
- Focus on the quality of hospitality, customer relations and in the area of trade will be crucial when facing the changes in consumer behaviour which is becoming increasingly "chameleon-like"
- The necessary expertise and knowledge required in new technologies and the need for added-value skills are some of the expected changes in the hospitality business
- The growing awareness of criteria for sustainable development in the hospitality sector will impact the training devices which must integrate this qualitative aspect based on all of the ethical requirements of sustainable development
