Young Hotelier Summit 2010

Initiated by the Career Club, a student run committee at EHL, the Young Hoteliers Summit will provide a unique opportunity for participants to exchange knowledge and ideas, demonstrate their skills through friendly competition and to add to their professional network.

Held at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne on the 28th and 29th January 2010, the YHS will be the first student run hospitality summit bringing together students from prestigious hotel schools around the world.

YHS will feature a competition amongst teams composed of members from different participating schools competing against each other to give solutions to a Creativity Challenge proposed by the Jumeirah Group. The Challenge will approach innovative solutions for contending against the global trend of decreased demand within the luxury hotel sector.

In addition, an enriching program of presentations, panels and workshops will be organized around the topics raised in the Creativity Challenge. Not only will the YHS benefit students with a rich learning experience outside of the class room, it will also provide more industry professionals the chance to interact and exchange views with future talents of the hospitality industry.

Programme

The two days of the Young Hoteliers Summit will be divided into three phases in which the student delegates will develop their proposed solutions: idea creation, idea development and idea presentation.

The first phase “idea creation”, will bring together industry leaders, participating students as well as members of the organizing team at the idea factory of Brainstore (www.brainstore.com). Brainstore’s innovative process of idea generation will help the participating students create innovative solutions for contending against the global trend of decreased demand within the luxury hotel sector.

Throughout the second phase “idea development”, teams of mixed students will begin to develop their range of ideas into an innovative but realistic solution to the creativity challenge. Mixing teams will ensure higher levels of creativity, as well as varied approaches towards problem solving. It will moreover trigger an active exchange of knowledge amongst the students coming from different schools and continents. Teams will be guided through the two days by three guest speakers, three workshops held by hospitality professionals and a panel consisting of three EHL students and three industry professionals.

The final “idea presentation” by the different teams in front of a jury composed of industry leaders and the award ceremony amongst other activities (see below) will be open to industry leaders, press and the general public. This is a unique opportunity to meet 40 of the most talented hospitality students from around the globe. The YHS team is looking forward to welcoming you at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne on the 29th January 2010.
